How dare you call our noble bid for restitution and justice a "land grab." Actually, New Mexico's march to statehood and the land issues involved are really interesting, though I only know a bit of them. We had a much bigger native population here than did most western states when they became, well, states, and the land problems are still not completely resolved. Lots of families in northern New Mexico had land grants signed over to them under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848, I believe, but after that the US just sort of took their land. It's been a long road for them to try to get it back. This current bid is unrelated to the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, but it's still a remnant of those shady deals way back when.
I apologize for not weighing in on the penis issue earlier. All I can say is that knowing the junior heavyweights, I'm not at all surprised by what they did. I'm still spending all my time driving my state into the ground. I have a number of stories that I would post except I'm afraid they'd get me fired if someone found them on the internet. You see, a lot of people are threatening to sue us (par for the course, really) and so I don't think that divulging juicy stories would be looked upon nicely.
